Botox vs. Dysport: Cost, Differences, and How to Choose

Both are neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin type A. They work by relaxing the small facial muscles whose repeated contractions crease the skin, including frown lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet.

Both take effect gradually, look natural when properly dosed, and wear off over a few months as muscle activity returns.

Dysport often shows results a bit sooner, sometimes within two to three days, while Botox more often takes three to seven days. Dysport also diffuses slightly more from the injection point, which can be useful in larger areas like the forehead, while Botox tends to stay more precise in small targeted spots.

Their units are not measured the same way, so comparing price per unit is misleading. Compare total treatment cost instead. Both usually last three to four months, varying by metabolism, dose, and treated area.

A unit of Botox is not interchangeable with a unit of Dysport. Each product has its own dosing instructions, formulation, and labeled units of biological activity. A lower advertised unit price does not automatically mean the completed treatment will cost less.

Before treatment, ask which product is recommended, which areas are included, whether pricing is by unit or treatment area, whether follow-up is included, and how adjustments are handled. Cosmetic Botox and Dysport are generally self-pay services, although manufacturer rewards programs may be available to eligible patients.
